"Have so many happy memories with Alison. Loved the times at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway with the rail trail walks and her hanging out the carriage windows wearing her customized googles. The Castle Howard Proms were another highlight seeing her so happy and totally in her element. I am proud to have called her my sister-in-law" - Andy Cole

"I would say there is one word that described Alison and that word is "fastidious". S ashe was always so particular with her outlook on life" - Cei Chaplin (teaching collegue and long-time friend)

Memories of Alison

I first met Alison in 1973 at Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln when we started training to become teachers. We both lived in Nelson Hall of residence.

One of my first memories of Alison is when we were with our friends in the college bar, with Alison singing along to the Beach Boys, ‘California Girls’. She always put particular emphasis on the words, ‘And the Northern Girls with the way they kiss, they keep their boyfriends warm at night’, because Alison was a northern girl and proud of her Yorkshire roots.

Both of us studied geography as our main course, but we were streets apart in our knowledge. Alison knew the answers to all the questions that we were asked and was a good person to know!

Her father was a geography teacher and I think all his knowledge had been instilled in Alison.

On a field trip to Holland in the fourth year she instinctively knew what to do – how was I to know how to age houses just by looking at them?

Alison met Mike at college and from day one they had a stable, loving relationship.

When they married, we visited them regularly in all their homes, the first being Claremont in Brigg (cold, large, draughty etc) which spurred them on to better things.

Garry has memories of playing Scrabble with Mike and Alison when staying with them and being absolutely shattered by Alison’s high scoring.

We have happy memories of our holidays together, particularly our first visit to France to the French Alps with Alison and Mike, the biggest highlight of our trip being when taking the cable car up the Aiguille Du Midi. - Cheryl Steele (long-time close friendof Alison)

"Alison was the most amazing lady I have met, so resilient and quite vocal when she wanted to be" - Sally Evans (carer)

"Alison was a beautiful person" - Sue, Phillip, Helena & Faye Yeadon

"We remember her fondly as a caring, friendly, fun loving, generous and intelligent friend" - Clive, Margaret and Christine
